5 ways to increase engagement on Instagram.

So, you have nailed the look and feel on your Instagram account, your branding is on point and you have regular posts going out. But for some reason, the likes are low and the following isn’t where is should be.

Here are some simple steps you can take to help increase the engagement and get seen by the right people!

Liking user posts

Easy but it can sometimes be a little time consuming, but it is definitely worth the investment. You will have noticed that when someone likes a post, you get a little notification to tell you that you’ve been liked, and more importantly who has liked your post.

This works both ways! The more photos you like, the more people you are reaching out to, and notifying that you are here. Whether you are liking by hashtag, location or just scrolling through your newsfeed, make sure you spread those hearts around!

Use relevant hashtags

Hashtags are key to any good Instagram account, especially when you are just starting out. Using relevant hashtags to your business will connect you directly to the people you are trying to target.

Instagram lets you use up to 30 hashtags on each post – so make sure you utilise as many hashtags as possible.

Follow the right people

Whether you want to show love to your customers, suppliers and even the influencers you’d like to work with. Who you follow is just as important as who is following you.

Following other users is a great way to build your following. People will often follow back and view your profile. Just be careful you don’t overdo it. Always try and ensure your following is more than the amount of people you follow. This gives your brand a little more credibility – and it doesn’t make you look too desperate.

Utilise Instagram Stories

Since the creation of Instagram Stories, users have drastically changed the way they use Instagram as a platform. More often than not, users will view stories before scrolling their newsfeed.

Instagram stories have some great interactive tools you can use for engaging with your following. Not to mention you can use the location and hashtag features within stories to be viewed by more people.

Location, location, location

Be sure to utilise the location tool for as many posts as possible. People will often explore new accounts by geographical location so whether you are posting from a restaurant, town or office be sure to use the geo tagging feature.
